Nitrogen Oxides

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) is a collective term used to refer to nitrogen monoxide (nitric oxide or NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

How is NOx produced?

Nitrogen oxides can be produced naturally, for example via the reaction of nitrogen and oxygen gases in air during a forest fire or lightning strike. In urban areas, nitrogen oxides are most commonly produced through fuel combustion, such as automobile exhaust and power plant emissions.

What are the health risks and environmental effects of NOx?

Nitrogen oxides can be harmful to the environment through the formation of smog and acid rain. High levels of NOx can also make vegetation more susceptible to disease and frost damage. The potential impacts of NOx on human health include lung tissue damage and a range of respiratory problems.

Why use an Aeroqual NOx sensor?

Aeroqual offers both a fixed or portable NOx sensor, with options to measure air continuously and in real-time. Check pollution hotspots, meet all local regulations, protect workers and the community, and make informed decisions using the latest in cutting-edge sensor technology.

Gas-sensitive semiconductor (GSE) NOx sensors are susceptible to cross-interference from ozone (O3) when measuring outdoor air. Aeroqual has developed a new 0-0.5 ppm nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensor featuring a thermal scrubber that removes the effect of ambient ozone.
